This is really unique drum! Looks to be beech, wich would definetly imply Europe. But who made it??? We may never know...

The snare mechanism on the inside of the head seems similar in concept to the ones on the batter head of a pipe band (marching) drum. Those drums have snares on both heads, and the ones on the batter head are positioned on the inside surface of the head for obvious reasons.

What a great snare, wow. Never seen anything like it. Hardware looks great. Crude but built to last. I'm thinking the 1960's maybe. Also looks like a one piece shell not a ply.

I believe you may be right regarding it being a single ply. I think I was seeing the seam where the ends were tapered and then butted together.

Great looking drum,I have an Eames ply kit,and the shells are still steam bent and the shells look like pics 3 and 4 you can't see one of those long seperate pieces on the inside or outside ply,but you can on the core plies.Maybe you could e mail Joe Mac at Eames,he might be able to shed some light on the how and why of the construction and if it is a similar technique to what he does.
