I have just come into possestion of a set of british melanie drums i believe to be the 'phantom' model. Its three roto-tom style drums mounted to a metal board. Other than they are from the 80's, DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT THEM? I already know that Trilok Gurtu used em, to be honest thats why i got them. Thanks!
Melanie Phantom drums
They were launched in 1982 as a cheaper alternative to roto toms or small concert tom add-ons that were popular at the time. They weren't made for very long, maybe a couple of years but there was a second version where the drums weren't mounted in the steel plate and had a domed "shells" with removable plugs to alter the sound.
Cheers Baskey, mine are the first generation, very interesting sound to em!
Does anybody know where I can get a set of these phantom drums
like Trilok used?

Originally, SONOR made them for Trilok I believe, at least they had a big SONOR logo on the front. Then Trilok went to REMO.
uTube has a performance from 2006 and he's still using them.
Does anybody know where I can get a set?

Hi guys.
Sorry... but I'm a little late on this thread.
Just purchased these yesterday. They were mixed and matched with a Maxwin kick drum, a Hamma EMI snare and a Zyn hihat.
Can you identify the toms for me ? - ...are these the later version of the toms you are talking about ?
If anyone is interested there is a set of Melanie drums for sale in a shop in Italy.
