Meazzi Hollywood

I've been looking into those European wraps quite a bit. Since I have drums made in 8 European factories(continental) it has been fairly easy to cross reference them and I've done some research too. It seems that until sometime into the 80's at least, most of the wraps were coming from one company located in Speyer ,West Germany. Those Oyster or Strata wraps that Meazzi used also showed up on Sonor,Tromsa,Trowa,Tacton and Lefima drums at various times from the 50's into the 80's.There is an Olive green version that I have only seen on a Meazzi Hollywood kit( a post here ,I think ) and on a very crudely made 14" Lefima floor tom , which I own. The shell looks like it was made by a one armed barrel maker but with that nice wrap and the hardware shined up it is a nice drum.It probably dates from the mid-50's, before Lefima skipped to the west. The continental European wraps of the past are truly amazing. There are some real surprises out there but I suspect most of the really great ones are being held close by their owners.

I heard that a lot of the cool finishes were made for Italian accordian (sp?) makers. They usually do have some wild finishes on those..........
