Hi!

I have an opportunity to buy this nice looking Maxtone drumset. Maxtone makes drums still I guess but by using search I'm sure that this set is older. Right?

The seller is asking 150 euros / an offer. This is everything included in the picture. Apparently there is something wrong with the snare drum wire/strainer and of course I need to replace the heads.

What do you think? This would be my first drum set and it would be played at my workspace just for fun. band2 (I play and teach bass for a living.)

By the way are these (maxtone) drums made by pearl company?

Thanks!

I don't think that is a bad price....can always offer 100. Cool looking little kit and tuned up right (& good heads) will sound good!

Welcome to the VDF!!

I agree that 100 euros would be a fair offer...I`m not sure what MIJ sets go for in your region though...

It almost looks like there is a second tom missing...What are the sizes of the drums?

Cheers

Thanks for the comments. Yes, it seems one tom missing and I have no idea what the sizes are. I would prefer a smaller jazzy style kit.

The hihat cymbals are 14 inch. Snare seems 14 inch too. Floor tom 16 inch? The kick doesnt seem too big.

I would leave it as a 4 piece and just ad a ride cymbal

Hi!

According to the second pic I´d guess it´s a 20-12-14-14 configuration, which would indeed be a jazzy outfit!

150,- incl. shipping might also be a fair price, as a hi-hat and a crash cymbal are included.

@ardrummer made a good suggestion, just what i´d do in your position.

Good luck with the deal! Btw. where are you located?

Greets, Jurgen

P.S.: although the lugs look like Pearl-style, it´s hard to tell if it´s made by Pearl. Maybe someone else on here with more insight might chime in with the right answer.

Thanks Lissy! Im located in Finland. :)

I would be happy with just the two toms. I will go and have a look at the drums next week personally. I think that the tom mount is pearl style?

This is as cheap as these drums go around here. If you're really lucky I think you can find something under 100 euros. There is a another blue colour MIJ Aria kit for 100e with a bigger kick (3 toms) but no snare, cymbals or anything. Also I like the gold glitter wrap more.

Yes, that gold glitter looks nice!

The fact of the bassdrum and the snare having six lugs each puts the kit into the entry level range - which does not mean they can´t sound really nice once you worked on the edges a bit and put decent heads on!

After a closer look at the photos it seems as if the floor tom lugs mismatch the rest of the kit (which has Pearl lugs).

I neither can tell of which kind the ft lugs are nor do I know the manufacturer; their shape is totally unfamiliar to me.

The tom holder itself as well as the bracket look more Tama-ish; the support that´s mounted on top of the bassdrum is indeed Pearl - but usually this is fitted as a bracket to toms. This explains the existence of the (steel?-)plate underneath. Hard to tell by the photo, but it seems to be made well and with effort and definitely has been added later for some reason by someone.

The cylinder-shaped bracket at the front of the bassdrum is a support for a (ride-)cymbal-holder - which obviously is missing.

So this kit looks like a so called "franken"-kit, which has been "mixed" together from different parts/manufacturers, but at least it looks nice and the asking price insn´t too bad due to the fact that it includes snare, hardware and cymbals. I´d try to negotiate anyway.

I would think this kit is a re-wrap.

Lissy's comment above about the lugs on the FT not matching, plus a beginner or budget kit from this era would never come with this nice of a wrap.

Looks good though!

All I know about Maxtone is that it's a Chinese factory based in Malaysia. Lower end, kind of like Maxwin, and with mostly Pearl-style fittings. I have a Maxtone floor tom, which is pretty beaten up and not a player, so I use it to keep my spare stands in.

But that price seems good to me too.
