Massive copper Asba snare listed in Holland.

No, Oddbal....

The gasket is just a simple U-shaped profile.

Whenever you put that on a shell - round or not - there WILL be a longer circumference on the outside than on the inside.

Therefore the cringing.

I don´t know if the drum is out of round - but you can´t guess that from this photo either. And if the hoops fit it isn´t out of round.

Ya I guess, But that was just the initial thought as to how a factory would turn that out !! Out of round is better than really cheap !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

I don´t understand you, Oddball....First you state the drum must be out of round, and when (partly) convinced it may not be, then you say it soon will be!

Are you trying to get the drum for yourself?

This drum is more then 30 years old, and if it is round, it very probably will stay round. The hoops and heads will have helped the shell staying round.

Now, I can´t see the drum, and neither can you, I guess? But ask the seller for a couple of pics, showing the drum seen from above and below with hoops but no heads attached - this will clearly show any ovality.

ASBA made hundreds of drums like this, I have seen and toyed with three complete kits, and they are no joke. This is high quality gear.

You have that on the nose, Jon... That SS kit and a bass pedal is the only ASBA stuff I've ever seen, and all of it was BUILT!

It`s a huge drum and judgeing by the extra hole in the seam, it `s no more than 16 guage stock. To help clearify, I refer to the bearing edge portion. From the halfround down or between them should have plenty of strength without a center bead, but that lip, even if it has a hem on it, I`ve made a million standing seam joints and could never keep them straight or in round with curves and have them go together easily. It`s just a 90, maybe an inch, I see no strength in it !!

The shell with the lugs on it wont be affected by an out of round lip above the halfround !! I dunno,...it just occurred to me that lip was tweeked from the ripples.

I could be full of it,...or too board and look`n for a conversation piece !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Lively discussion going on here,...

1. The picture from the "rubber gasket" copper drum was just an example and taken from the web, so nothing to do with the Asba for sale in Holland.

2. I'll try to get some more info and pics of the actual 14" X 10".

3. I'm afraid you guys got me all fired up so probably I'm gonna end up soon with another snare,... thanks,... x-mas3

HA! Yeah... you should always give YOURSELF a Christmas present! x-mas3

If you get it, please post a ton of pix. I'd like to see that thing close up. Also, double up on your insurance. I'm sure doing rim shots on that thing will break your neighbors windows.

Actually ASBA produced very few copper kits, less than 10 (some says 5 at most). Each kit was hand made and signed by the company employee who did it.

The plastic rim was a common feature on metal shells that were very thin (1/10mm of steel or copper), without rolled rim. It adds a touch of warmth to the metal attack. On all shells still equiped by this rubber rim, you will see those crease on the internal side of the rim. It's not that the shell is out of round, it's only a very soft rubber.

The great pedal that some of you are refering to is the CAROLINE pedal (named after the Daniel Humair daugther's names - D.Humair helped a lot to develop it)
