Hi there - I just stumbled upon this interesting looking MIJ Nikkan marching share that I immediately bought for about $60. Does anybody know anything about these drums?
Regards Erik
Hey, Black label!
I think you did really well! For sixty bucks, it's hard to go wrong! How does the drum sound? What kind of heads are you going to use? Is it going on gigs? What is the approximate age? If tuned tightly, I'll bet it will sound great, especially with the internal damper! In my opinion, you scored big time! Nice goin'!

Thanks Salty - i have not yet received it, hope to collect over the weekend. I want to hear what it sounds like with the current heads but will probably go Coated Ambassador. I don't even know the size, but based on rough measurements by the seller it could be a 14 x 16. I want to try it as a main snare tuned low. It could sound very interesting - ala Tommy Lee. If it sounds ok I may gig i:-) Walking
Thanks for the info, Black label! Please keep us informed. I'll bet you have a winner there!

Beautiful snare, looks to be Sakae built congrats

Thanks Brian. I did not manage to collect over the weekend but hopefully will tomorrow. I am quite excited to check this rather strange bird out in person. I will post better pics once I receive it.
Hello Black Label
Sakae was sort of a minor player (production wise) during the stencil period
they built some cool MIJ kits and a good amount of marching snare drums
mostly with the round, blue Zim Gar badges but others as well.
They used Slingerland copy lugs that at a glance looked like any other Sling copy
but with a closer look there is a 1/8"aprox thick step on them at the bottom of the casting
where they would contact the shell.
Sakae also used die cast hoops or at least hoops designed to resemble die cast hoops
I see both the lugs and the hoops on your very cool snare.

Awesome, thanks Kenwood. I should get the drum today. I will post an update soon.
Any updates?
Cheers
