A little internet lesson.....
A DNS is your Domain Name Servers..... This is where your web site is hosted... This points to the I.P. address of the server....
So I have all of the web sites uploaded on the new server.... Woohoooo
I just switched the DNS for vintagedrumguide.com that should take about 24hrs to set the DNS for the new server....
Vintagesnaredrums.com is still on the old server and once I know the vintagedrumguide.com domain is pointed correctly, then I have to do a domain forward of the vintagesnaredrums.com to vintagedrumguide.com.
Then that step is done...
So as of now, http://www.vintagedrumforum.com and http://www.vintagedrumstore.com (still fixing the store after the move) are all on the new server and running fine...
I took the http://www.kickswithsticks.com forum and moved that to http://www.drummerguide.com so, the kicks name will point to the drummerguide forum... I have big plans for that forum, but it will take awhile to get that one moving along.
http://www.vintagecymbalguide.com is all set and on the new server.
I have one more domain, http://www.vintagedrumsets.com that I will set up at a later date... I'm sure you know what that site will feature!
The intent is to have the main web site http://vintagedrumguide.com connect with all of the other web sites....
A little history.....
Many years ago, I started the vintagesnaredrums.com web site.. That was the only web site I had and over time it grew bigger and bigger... it started out as snare drums and then grew out of control and I thought the name limited the site to just snare drums... Then the name change to vintagedrumguide.com happened-
I was getting so many questions to the web site, I just could not keep up and at the same time the DCI forum fell apart.... a few days later I started this forum and because of all of our connections in the business and the already huge web site, this forum has grown considerably in a short period of time...
I consider this and call this the "Largest Vintage Drum Forum" on the Internet! It is and membership is steady and strong and grows because of the main web site. We also have two well known vintage web sites that also send people to this forum for help and support. Not to mention the members that spread the word and let people know about this place.
So through all of that, I added other domains for future use and you all have been in the middle of the largest move and change this web site has ever done.... I guess I moved 10 - 15,000 images and had to move 3 different databases and 5 different web sites...
I hope this is our final resting spot for the time being..
The forum has suffered with all of the problems and the hits have gone down once the troubles started with the slowness. In the end I have learned a lot and know what to expect and how to handle this type of change...
Thanks to everyone for the support and help with the move...
