Majestic partial kit in gold agate

Loading...

Hello vintage mij folks

I found these gold agate Majestic drums this morning

and as is often the case there is no floor tom

I would appreciate if anyone knows of one or even just a shell

Someone out there could make a living repopping MIJ floor toms in odd wraps. Just get a bunch of poplar 14" and 16" shells and Slingy style lugs. They'd sound pretty similar with round-over edges.

Hello Teverson-sr Yes indeed

I would agree with that

I have the drums here now

I guess the seller misplaced the 13" drum

I see on the rail there are two bayonet mounts

Both hoops on the otherwise complete 12" inch tom are pretty badly rusted

The two on the snare are not far behind

the heads and wires are all trashed for all intents and purposes

both bass drum hoops still have the gold agate inlays and are black painted steel?

The whole bass drum is complete with one bonus surprise

The original heads including the Majestic logo resonant side

they are both dirty but will respond to some light scrubbing

there is a little warping and lifting and a small split on the wrap

all being right at the seam, directly on the bottom, between the two spurs

Here is a question for those who have been at this MIJ thing longer than myself

I realize many kits were sold without a floor tom

I have seen catalog offerings on three pieces bass ,ride ,snare w/ the FT optional

and this seller swore he never had the floor tom from brand new

My question is did they ever offer double mounted tom kits

with and without the optional floor tom?

The seller seemed to remember having two mounted toms

but after looking and not finding it, he thought that perhaps he was wrong

But as mentioned there is that second bayonet mount on the rail

so this makes me fairly certain there is a second mounted drum

still buried somewhere in the seller's basement

That would make this a pretty unusual config from the original point of sale

to have two mounted toms with the floor tom still being optional?

I personally have never run into this before

and it just does not seem right to me for some reason

Still and all a very happy camper here at 75.00

including some original hardware and a slightly key-holed vintage 20" Zildjian ride cymbal

I think you did great for $75!

I have a complete Crown 3pc kit and would love a matching floor tom. Due to the color, I doubt I'll ever find one!

Concerning your kit, I've also never seen MIJ kits without a floor tom that came from the factory with dual rack toms. Would just seem very odd to have a kit like that. However, I guess anything is possible!

Hello Mark

Thanks for the reply ....Oh heck yes

I love these things for my 75.00

such a cool color and they will really contrast well with the other kits in the display

of all these sorta herring bone patterned agate wraps this gold and also the white are my two favorites

as you do not see them as often as the red and blue ..which of course are still pretty cool also

this little partial is the first and only agate kit I have in the display

they are pretty complete and original at least what remains

but they have been neglected and poorly stored over a long stretch of time so it will be fun to love them up

hey post up them crowns Let's get a look at them
