Yes, that is right - wood hoops all the way for me as much as possible. I love Anderson - their staff is great and product is top notch. At the same time, also include HB Drums in your shopping. They have lacquered hoops for under 25 each, including also offering bare hoops. I believe they offer birch (not sure if they also offer maple or other woods).....

you did a really nice job on that kit josh, looks great. i basicly did the same thing with the kit i did but just used a different type of fabric. it cost me 80 some odd dollars to rewrap a 5pc kit. that is including the fabric, glue and tape. i already had sandpaper and the paint i used to stain the shells with. the kit itself cost me less then 250 shipped to my front door. i think fabric is a good way to go with these mij kits, you have tons of paterns and colors to choose from, it's easy to do, really doesn't take that long to finish so less work and fabrics don't seem to hurt the sound of them. now unless you really have the money and want to put that much into a lower priced kit, that is cool too. i really like mij kits coz they are price efficient for me and with some TLC, they are really nice kits with good sound.

Wow, what a tread. Talk about your blasts from the past. My first ever drum kit was a red sparkle Majestic that I bought off a hippie in Escondido, California for $100 from my paper route back in 1978. That one was falling apart, but a couple years later, I found my second kit at a swap meet for $150. Also Majestic, this one blue pearl. I played in bands, both jazz and punk rock, with that one. Fantastic kit.

that I have seen a Majestic drum without the offset lugs

I have restored a Majestic kit and have it up for sale at the moment. However, I noticed that it has 10 lugs on the kick drum and this is the only one I've ever seen. I made this from two separate kits and came up with a 12" rack, 14" floor and 20" kick. No snare with this kit, but all brand new heads and I took it to Vegas this last year for a convention gig and it sounded pretty awesome! My main kits are DW and Crush and I don't really need another kit. I cleaned up all the chrome and recovered the skins along with new drum heads. It's a 72 from what I can tell and I wish I knew more about the 10 lug configuration.
