Wow! What an awesome wrap! THos are distinctive for sure!

I totally know what you mean. I'm an MIJ fan too, and even though a probably could've gotten a cheaper USA made kit of the same era, it's not nearly as distinctive or "cool" to me!

How did the carpet tape work? The one thing I hate about wrapping is having to use contact cement. I'm always nervous I'm going to mess it up somehow.

The carpet tape worked great for me. Once I marked on the shell where I wanted the wrap to start, I put one tape strip on the shell first and flattened it out nicely. This is possible because there is still the protective paper attached to the other side that gets removed when I'm ready to attach the wrap.

Once I pull the protective paper off, I can see my pencil mark through the tape so so I line up the wrap edge and press it down. I was a little off on my first one and it was a struggled to get the wrap off the shell. It sticks really well.

On the loose side of the wrap that is gonna come around the shell, I attach a tape strip that overhangs the sides and finished edge a bit. I can press it down because there is the protective tape still on the top side. The overhanging tape gets trimmed off along the wrap edges with a razor so once you peel the protective paper and stick it to your starting point, you won't see any tape.

Then I used a 2x2 and some clamps along the seem for a bit to make sure it sticks. No signs of wanting to peel up. The tape is the way I'll go in the future.

These look fantastic, very nicely done! I have an orphan Majestic 14" floor tom that matches my Lyra kick, snare and rack tom, but it's not a De Luxe, and definitely doesn't have a 6-ply shell! It's 1-ply with 3 reinforcement rings (a necessity with how thin the shell is).

Thanks guys. The only weird thing I ran into was, even though the 12" toms appeared to be original to the kit (their old wrap matched the bass),

the spade mount on the second tom was mounted on the same side as the first tom.

Meaning, the way they were originally, the second tom, when mounted, had the badge facing the drummer and the muffler face out. They had two left mount spade plates. So I had to flip one so both badges face out as you see now.

Ever hear of that? Weird.

Sounds like one of the 12's may be from another kit. My kit came with only one hanging tom (a 13") and the badge faces out when mounted to the drummer's left.

To answer your question, the Majestic 20-12-12-14 was exactly what you have. And yes, the spade mounts were backward. This was an after thought. The 2 12s where supposed to be tuned as you would a 12-13. The spades suck, btw. It was a quick fix to a problem they didn't realize. It only happened for about 16 months before they dropped that kit. You have the same kit I first bought for my son. 20-12-12-14, 9 ply shells.
