Lumnitone, or Lumitone.... Japanese drum heads

Loading...

I got a few boxes of old drum heads... Most are pretty old. 60's thru 80's. There was even a genuine new never used calf head in there. (I traded that to a friend who is restoring a 30's radio king).

Among the collection are brand new coated Lumitone MIJ drum heads. There are are about 7-8 MIJ heads in there... most have a script that says Lumitone (I think that's what it says) and are stamped JAPAN in black on the side of the rim. There's others that are 100% identical with no name, stamped MADE IN JAPAN on the rim.

This is a Japan brand I've never heard of. I've got some 40 some odd year old drum heads that have never been used... how fun is that!

I've also got some older plastic rim Evans, old Remo, and old Ludwig heads. Neat stuff.

I have tried to see if anyone knows anything about this Lumitone brand...

Looks like you are the soul keeper of that knowledge. Care to share a picture or two?

Unfortunately no... What I've got most of is Older Evans Remo and Ludwig... Odd sizes... like 15's and 17's... I think a few 18's... amd lots of 13's. And then there's these weird Japanese ones... all 13's

I THINK there's a few 22" also...

Cool! Never heard of them - but always fun to find something NOS! Too bad they are all 13s. I bet you have some gems in that box! Some on here might be looking for something you have - you might want to consider throwing some up in the FS section. You would likely easily be able to unload anything that is NOS - so long as it is vintage enough. Alot of Authentic restorers here.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Looks like the originals I pulled of some late 60s early 70s Pearls. For the rim: inside band of 2 or 3mm round rod with loops of wire (must be holding the head material) and an outside plastic housing.

Makes me wonder if heads were a 'stencil' type operation, too. One factory pumping out heads and putting different brand names on them?

I got some plenty vintage drum heads around here..... never used.

I even got a 13" Evans coated plastic rim head that's painted with Barney Beats on it... made to hang in the store... That's a cool piece... even though I'm not an Evans user (normally)... I prefer Ludwig heads, but don't hold anything against the other guys.

I have a Pair of Japanese 'amber Vistalite' or should I say 'orange see- through' Bongos made by 'LUMITONE'.

I don't know if the manufacterer is the same as the one of your Drum Heads though...
