Lug mounting on Ludwig Supra versus Jazzfestival

Hello,

On Ludwig Supraphonic/Acrolite snare drums the lugs are mounted with a cup washer, hexagonal bolt AND a split lock washer between bolt and cup washer.

On Jazz Festival snare drums the lugs are mounted with a flat washer and a hexagonal bolt but... without this split lock washer between bolt and flat washer.

Does someone know why and should I put a split lock washer myself during restoration to be sure bolts wouldn't come loose?

The metal shell transmits vibrations easier than the wood shell does, hence the lock washer. Your jazzfest should be fine without the lock washer.

Thank you for the explanation.

However, these days drum companies also but these split lock washers between bolt and flat washer on wood drums. Perhaps for added security anyway?
