$4500 is insane for these drums. They aren't that rare! The hardware and cases are cool and all, but I think you would be doing REALLY well to get $1500 in this market. Just my two cents........Eye Ball

They are worth WAAAAY more than $1500 for sure. This is an exceptionally rare find. $4500 may be a little high, but I wouldn't be surprised if you got this on ebay.

$4,500.00 may be a steep asking price, but he may get some decent offers below that. More power to him if he gets it, though. They are exceptionally beautiful and COMPLETE drums -not necessarily that "rare", but the completeness of this package is INSANE! -which IS rare! And the drums are near-mint from what I can see.

If you think $4,500.00 is insane, then go out and price a shell pack for a new Ludwig Legacy kit (which are not half the drums these vintage ones are, in my opinion) in those sizes and then get back to me! heh heh ;)

What are you all looking at that I don't see? There are 2 different ludwig kits in silver sparkle from the same era on the bay for under $1000, and the sparkle is in better shape.....what am I missing? The hardware is really nice, as are the original cases and heads, but come on......its not like a Beavertail 63 Cleveland Rogers Kit in Mardi Gras with a matching wood dynasonic. I just don't see what I am missing on this one. It's not that rare, or mint, or any of that. Educate me.........

Well, in all honesty, there is no way to really tell what someone would be willing to pay for a set of drums -ANY set of drums, but I'll try and explain why I think this kit is a cut above the average EBay kit:

This one is a matched B/O badge kit from '69-70 era -meaning that these drums were made together and stayed together

>3-ply shells withOUT the wrap tucked into the seam

>natural maple interiors -probably the most desirable incarnation of all the 3-ply variants

The hardware is also original era-correct hardware -the most desirable flat base stands, double tom mount, Atlas hi-hat, SpeedKing bass drum pedal, Atlas snare stand -ALL of it just like it was found in the Mummy's tomb!

Then, there's the Avedis Zildjian cymbal pack -a complete ensemble -likely ear-matched by the former owner (if he was a musician, as mentioned)

Then there's the cases -which not only are handy for storage of the drums, but are also collectible and especially collectible because they are part of this ensemble of every era-correct component and sound that was of that time.

I assure you, this is NOT the average EBay silver sparkle drum kit. Again, the COMPLETENESS of this ensemble is everything.

If it was just a few nice vintage silver sparkle drums in excellent condition, it would sell for 1200-1500, but this is a whole other deal because it is an entire family tree of Ludwig drums and hardware and the "right" cymbals....on and on.

Mind you, this is strictly based upon what I see in the pictures. If there is a problem that I can't see, then I would have to amend my estimation. But, it honestly would not surprise me if that kit goes for a lot of moolah!

Hey O-lugs, are you sure this wrap isn't tucked into the ply? I had a '71 silver sparkle kit, and the wrap was tucked into the ply.

That would be odd. I have a '67 WITH and a '69, '70,'73 and '76 WITHOUT. My understanding is that they stopped doing it sometime in late 1968. But there's a way to verify that on these drums if launchpad can snap some pics of the bearing edges.

Hey I will get some picture's today of the ply it is not wrapped in the ply and they are all dated oct 1970 if I recall the 12th but I will shoot some pic's, oh and the overall condition of this kit would have to be 9.75 not bad for being nearly 40 yrs old.
