I recently changed the snare head on my 70s Ludwig supersensative snare and now the rim goes down too far to get the proper tension on the head. This prevents the snares from not touching the head when released. I had to add an additional head rim to make it work properly but this is not the best solution. If I loosen the head tension the head wrinkles and sound horrible. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you used a REMO ambassador or diplomat snare head. They tend to stretch a ton. Try and find a Ludwig or Aquarian snare side head.

Hello Moose... and Welcome to the forum!
As the above post mentions, you need a Ludwig snare-side head to allow the SS mechanism to work properly. These heads have a shallow collar and are still being made by Ludwig and easily found online from a number of sellers. Just search for "Ludwig C1114" and you'll find it. I also believe that Remo makes a shallow collar snare-side marching head. I don't know the thickness, though. From personal experience with a SS I owned, I used Ludwig heads.
