I believe that Delmar Products has supplied drum and guitar manufacturers since the 1960s. I've never heard of another manufacturer for sparkle wraps.

Jammin Sam's 'JS Sparkles' are the closest match to vintage sparkles I've seen. I believe they're also made by Delmar. Otherwise, the new sparkle wraps have slightly bigger flakes. You can get some samples sent from Precision and JS to compare. I'm sure that wraps changed from year to year and from batch to batch.

I've seen 3-ply, blue/olive badged drums with clear and with granitone interiors.

Here's a pic of John's daughter, Zoe, playing one of his green sparkle kits with a clear interior. I believe he had more than one green sparkle kit.

In the 60's there were multiple suppliers of wrap and drum manufacturers would switch suppliers from time to time as they could get different pricing deals. I believe Ludwig at various times sourced wrap from DuPont and Monsanto. Neither of these giant chemical companies appear to make this sort of product any more. Delmar is about the only game in town for traditional wraps. I'm not sure when they started.

Here's an interesting article on Delmar from the Sweetwater Music website. They started making wrap for drum companies in '66 according to the article. Apparently, they even make credit cards, which is interesting because people describe the thickness of drum wraps to credit cards.

Precision and Jammin use the same sparkle wrap. The available silver sparkle is a very close match to the original Ludwig.

I think that new JS sparkle is going to be really close. Sam said I got the very last of his original SS to wrap a 14"x14" floor tom. Actually had to use two pieces as he didn't have one piece big enough. I have a snare shelll I got off eBay with the new JS sparkle and I really can't tell the difference in it and the floor tom. I will post a pic when I get up and start moving around.

The Vintage Sparkles were likely the same as Precision's wrap. Below is a quote from the JS website regarding the JS Sparkles:

"These wraps are almost identical to our discontinued Vintage Sparkles. The difference is a slightly smaller flake (hard for us to tell the difference, even side-by-side). If you want to save money, and have that vintage sparkle look (or just an awesome sparkle appearance), ask about these!"

The green sample is from Precision; the red sample is a JS Sparkle. The JS Sparkles appear to have smaller flakes to me.

Now all i gotta do is either save up $1400k for the one of fee/prey bay for hopefully find a bare complete b/o 3ply 14x26' shell!,

Delmar is the current manufacturer of almost all the drum wraps you see available from various sources but I don't believe they will sell direct to the public so you'd have to go though one of their distributors/dealers which means Precision, Drum Supply Co. or Jammin' Sam.

As mentioned above there were other companies in the past but none of them seems to still be making drum wrap anymore. Some companies in China still make celluloid acetate which was what the old pearl wraps were but they have rather steep minimum orders.
