Ludwig Tom Mount Question

Loading...

Hi All,

I just aquired a beautiful set of '69 Luddies, SIlver Sparkle 22 x 14 with rail, 13 and 16 x 16.

Two questions: The rack tom mount has a wingnut which I think is not correct. In '69 wouldn't the mount have 2 washers and a hex nut that fits the hex nut wrench?

The floor tom came equipped with beautiful earlier shorty legs with the knurled ends. Athough these are nice and collectable, they are not correct for 1969. Would the correct floor tom legs be the 18" or 20" size with the splined ends?

You are correct about the hex nut...

The measurement on the floor tom legs is 17"...the ends are fluted (splined) and not knurled.

Thanks 'Lugs! I'll just get a nut that'll work until I come across an original... All in all the set is real nice, an easy eight out of ten and almost no sign of age in the wrap. I'm going to sand and repaint the bass drum rims, clean the Ts and claws, put Aquarians on and it'll be ready to go.

The kits got the clear, varnished interior, it should sound like my other 3 plys of the past.

Sure thing!

Hey, some people consider those late 60's clear maple interiors as Ludwig's best 3-ply variants! They Do sound great. I love 'em!

I think most late 60's Ludwigs came with the short legs. My 69 mod orange 22,13,16 came with short legs as did my 1968 silver sparkle 22,13,16. What logo head did you get? I have the mod orange, the oyster black and silver sparkle from the late 60's and they all came with the 70's style transistion logo.

Hi Kurt,

The kit came with a reso head with an original script style logo. I'm not sure if the head is original to the kit. From what you're telling me it's not... No worries as I'm putting it up for safe keeping and using the Aquarian Reso head anyway.

Good to know about the short legs. I had a set of '69 Blue Oysters and they had come with the splined longer legs. Did the shot legs you have on your various late sixties kits come with the splined grip area or the old knurled type?

All the legs are 17" and splined on my '67, '69 and 70(s) Ludwigs.
