Ludwig Throw-off ???

Loading...

Is this a Ludwig throw-off? (On an eBay snare) I can't find any exactly like it in the catalogs or info here on VDF. There is a 4 point mounting throw-off (1940) but it doesn't look the same.

Gary - 'Could be' Ludwig, but it looks like an old Gretsch four point strainer to me. Compare it to some of the old (1930's) Gretsch strainers. Slingerland used three point strainers on the Radio Kings, so I don't think it's a Slingy. Ludwig, or Gretsch, those would be my best guesses.

Thanks guys. So the snare is probably a Gretsch with Ludwig rims.

Even if it's a mongrel, it's an interesting drum. Quality components for sure. What's it currently going for, Gary? Price would be the final arbiter as to whether it's a good buy, or not.

It's a Leedy throw-off! A Leedy snare just came up on eBay with the same throw-off and it looks original. Found it in the 1941 Leedy catalog. That makes more sense.
