once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

To be honest,...a muffler defeats the sensitivity, I don't understand why it would be ordered or factory installed. When my D-505 snare gets too sensitive, I just touch it with the muffler.

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

They may not show them, but they used to come with them standard back in the day. I rarely used one, but just about all my snares came with one, although I'm sure there were exceptions.

When I did use one I set it to barely touch which damped the ringing a bit

Maybe I’m speaking out of turn here, but my ‘78 super sensitive has the factory muffler. Not a base ball bat obviously but certainly factory installed.

In the early 60´s prior til serial numbers Ludwig was using the model P-4066 tone control with a relatively small knurled round knob and a grey round felt pad. In 1962 Ludwig introduced the model P-4067 tone control with a long handle and a red felt pad ( Baseball bat tone control) When serial numbers started in approx November 1963, both smal knob and Baseball Bat Tone Controls are seen. Small knob tone control are usually seen on Marching drums. There are two different color felt used on the Baseball mufflers, red and white. The red is seen on serial numbers from the beginning through about 110000. After 1965 the white felt baseball bat tone control is used. But there is overlap i felt color. The baseball bat tone control with white felt continues until early 1968 about serial numbers range 570000.

This particular drum has a fabric mounted muffler. P-4067 baseball bat muffler. So the whole drum is in original state and condition. Sounds amazing.

Someone added a muffler. It's ruined,...holy sh*t !! Not holy grail......There's no cat mention of that being an option. A muffler would degrade the sensitivity,.....Right ?
