Ludwig Super Classic advice and information...

Loading...

Hello all, I'm new to this forum but was curious if anyone had any insight or advice on the late 80's early 90's Ludwig Super Classic drums. I have an opportunity to acquire a kit sized 22x16, 12x8, and 14x14 in a tranparent black that has a gold type hint to it. Very similar to the black Yamaha Maple Custom drums. The bass drum is stamped June 89, the rack tom has the modular RIMS mount and the floor has the RIMS suspension basket.

I haven't seen many of these kits around, let alone in the non power tom sizes and I haven't quiet been able to pinpoint the finish either. If anyone has any helpful information to offer, that would be awesome.

The kit also comes with a 10x8 tom which is in the charcoal shadow finish (it doesn't match the rest of the drums exactly) and is the 6-ply Classic model.

Sable Classic-Coat and Classic Charcoal Shadow are both black on wood. Without pics ...

You could most likely pin down the one ... shadow shows the grain.

As for the outfit ... it would appear that it's a LC-3105-MC kit with a special order 22 inch bass.

There is no other cat config for your drums.

I know the 22",12", and 14" are Super Classic drums. I've counted the plys and there are 4, where as the 10" has 6 plys. Are these drums that sought after and what would be a fair price? Though I know that can be subjective.

It's a Classic Charcoal Shadow. It has quite a bit of age fade.

This is not a vintage kit. This is not a cat kit. It's also not a highly sought after kit. It is some of the least desired Ludwig shell builds.

With that said ... it's a great kit. Play it and enjoy it. You would not get a great deal of money for it. It plays much better than its value. Nice one, for sure.

Well I appreciate your insight, I definately don't like to overpay for things and this one was listed at $900 plus tax. I can still return it for a full refund, the drums do sound really good, I just don't want to be too far into it for what its monetary value is. Thank you.

And I don't mean to post a non-vintage kit in a vintage drum forum.

I wasn't saying you cannot post non-vintage here. I was stating that particular kit was not vintage (which impacts value).

You overpaid by quite a bit (my opinion).

It is a nice kit, but definitely not worth 900 (again, my opinion).

You can get a 4 or 6 ply Luddy kit for half that ... easily. Fact is, you can get some sweeeeeeet 3 ply Luddy's or Slingerland's for that kind of scratch.

Whatever you decide, good luck with it all.
