Those are two pretty cool kits sitting together!
Hopefully this question doesn't derail your thread. I've never played a Trixon kit before. Since they are side by side, do you mind giving a comparison of the sound, build quality, how they play, etc. of the kits?
Thanks,
Wes
Thanks, I love both kits. The Trixon has 6 ply beechwood shells made in West Germany. The Ludwig is 3ply maple/poplar/maple. Trixon used some plastic parts under the lugs and on the floor and kick legs. I know some don't like that, but I've never had any issues. I love the tom holder and they are well built. As far as sound goes, they are a joy to play, they just feel so 60's. Not quite as warm as the Ludwig, but a fuller tone. They sound good tuned high or low, although I prefer them a bit higher. i believe most of us know what Ludwig sounds like. Both kits sound great, but I prefer the Trixon, not just the sound, but the look of it. I'll probably hold on to this one for a long time. I highly recommend buying one if you have the chance.
Thank you for the insight on the Trixons!
You're welcome. I've never met a kit I didn't like. Drums are drums, I can manipulate any kit to get the sound I want, mainly from choice of heads. I hate pre- muffled kick heads, they make every kick sound the same. I generally use coated Ambassadors on all batter sides, that gives me the option of muffling or no muffling, especially on the kick.
When you play those Standards out Mark, let us know if the spurs do the work they are intended to do or if you have to augment them with an anchor or whatever. They always look as if they would allow the bass to creep. I've not had a chance to play mine out. They are closet queens at the moment.
Dan, if you look closely, there is an anchor, it came with the kit, as did those Evans pre-muffled kick heads. The resonant will stay since it has the logo, but the batter side is getting changed today.
Oh yes, I should have seen that Mark. It's a nice Ludwig one too!
Hi Folks!
I can certainly chime in on this question about Standard spurs.
They will indeed keep the bass drum upright as you race around the stage... maybe.
Spikes on the front hoop, or those trick gig rugs with the plank are the only things I've found that will tame these drums afflicted with wanderlust.
Yep, that's pretty much it. Nice kit by the way! You don't see all that many in this finish, around here anyway.
