Ludwig Standard

Loading...

I bought the Ludwig Standard kit in a bronze strata finish. I was prepared to offer him less because of the extra holes in the kick, but after seeing them I knew it was still a good deal. They are clean, no cracks in the wrap, only a few scuffs. I took off the modern legs and will probably have the holes plugged up. I also removed those hideous rims and put the tom mounts back where they belong.

The dude wanted to keep the matching snare, but may sell it to me later

Anyway, here they are, thanks.

You did great. If you can grab the snare later I would. They are hard to find. I collect the Strata snares and they are great. Good luck with it. I have a kit in the Red Ruby Strata and love it.

No Guru - I just love collecting & learning about vintage drums!

It has a cymbal mount on the kick, I wonder if someone added it later because it's not in the same location as other kit's I've seen.

Beautiful Bronze Strata! It took me a long while to find a snare in that wrap for my collection. That cymbal arm bracket does seem oddly placed, lower than normal.

Those newer spurs are an unfortunate mod, but since they are there and the "damage" is done, they are far more practical than the factory spurs.

I took those off as soon as I got them home. I like the factory legs, gigged a Standard for a long time with no issues.

Nice pick up and a beautiful color. Personally, I would have walked away if I couldn't get the matching snare as well, just something about keeping things together for me. Owner had an emotional attachment to the snare? That would be understandable I suppose.

That's an after market tom mount. Although it's a Ludwig, the Standard mounts followed the same diamond hole pattern, but the were closer together and the tube acceptor was 5/8", the currently installed mount is 1". If you take off the tom mount, you should see the other holes. The existing 5/8" hole would have to have been widened, so hopefully it was a clean hole job.

The only positive is that it will be easier to find a tom arm (should you want one), because the 1" Ludwig tom mounts are plentiful; the 5/8" Standard arms are nearly impossible to find.

Glad you got a set that will work for you.

Wanted: Pearl President floor tom in Golden Grain wrap and rack tom in Tiger Eye (root beer) wrap.
