Ludwig Standard kit

Loading...

I haven't looked at it in person yet, but the seller has posted pics of it and it looks to be in good condition. The kit is a 5-pc Ludwig Standard is what he's thinking. I believe it's the blue strata finish from what I've read on this site. He said it's serial# is 84883. He's asking $150 for it as of the last time I read. What do you guys think as far as sound quality goes and value? Here's a picture of it (sorry it's so huge):

For that price I'd grab them! Sound quality is the same as the regular Ludwigs of the time as they use the same shells.....only the hardware was cheaper. The rack toms are missing the bottom heads and hoops so make sure they bearing edges are ok. Hardware looks in good shape and to be mostly original to the kit so thats a plus. The cymbals look to be throw aways so don't worry about those too much.

Those stands are worth more than the 150. BUY them. The sound of these Standard kits are right on with the 'regular' Ludwigs of the early 70's. ONLY the hardware was different. That does not make an appreciable difference in sound. I will say that due to the lighter hardware, the Standard wing tom resonates a bit better. But the tone and such is exactly the same. You won't regret it. Nice drums.

Hey, if you don't like the hardware...swap it out with Ludwig classic lugs. They fit the holes. Then you will have a 'regular' Ludwig kit. Great shells.

You can get the lugs and mounts and hoops for about 350. Factor in selling the Standard hardware on ebay for about 200. That brings you to a net 150. Add to that the initial 150 investment and you've laid out 300 bucks for a seriously nice Ludwig kit. That's a worst case scenario. That's IF you don't like the hardware.

Thanks for the info guys. I will definitely get this kit! The kit won't sound like some $300 kit at some random music store, is what I mean by quality of sound. I owned one of those cheapo kits as my first and it was terrible. This kit won't sound like that I'm guessing, sans cymbals.

Nope. It will sound like an early 70's Ludwig kit. That's because it is just that. Check the bearing edges carefully. You can get them recut, if needed. But, you want to know what you're buying. Good luck on this one. Love the finish! ;) I just picked up a Blue Strata. Nice kit.

I picked it up today. Haven't had a chance to play it yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

LudwigDude has some parts if you are missing any. Check with him to see what's still available. Great snag! Nice kit.
