Ludwig Standard Interior

Hey y'all

Picked up this Ludwig Standard snare. I know usually they had the granitone interior. This one does, but for some reason, someone added a metal strip throughout the interior. Anyone ever seen this before? I assume it's not factory. It's not attached to the drum by anything but the mounting screws of the lugs and throwoff. Underneath is the granitone interior.

Any idea what someone was going for with this? Maybe trying to turn a wood snare metal?

(And it's definitely metal, I know the picture makes it look wooden.)

Have you removed the inner strip to see if there as any damage that it may be covering?

Yup!

It's in perfect condition. The strip is so well drilled, I almost have to wonder if someone with some professional experience did it. It's fits in like a glove, all the holes are perfect.
