I just got a Ludwig standard 1971 Ludwig blue sparkle (but it looks greenish) drumset and I would like to know if these drums have any value and if they also sound good (i havent played them yet, as I am traveling these days).
Thanks!!!

Standards are less valuable than classics, but still nice drums. They used the same 3ply shells as the classics just different hardware. I think the Ludwig Standards had some of the most unique finishes, I've seen a lot of great looking Standards. Your looking at probably $400-$700 depending on condition.
Yes. They are. I have a 14 floor Tom that did that blue mist to teal fade. Kinda cool. If you're looking to part with them, ...
They don't net what classic shells net. I still don't understand why but that's the reality of it. Those are very good drums.
Could you post some pics? We could get a better idea on condition and such.
Don't listen to any of them. These are horrible drums. As a matter of fact, just send them to me and I'll get rid of them for you....Laughing H
No, no....seriously....these are very good drums for the money. They SOUND the same as regular 3-ply Ludwigs, they just have the cheaper hardware on them with some sometimes funky finishes on them. I'd say in general that standards are worth about 2/3rds the value of regular Ludwig classic drums.

Of course, if you have the sought after mondo mucho incredible Avocado Strata wrap on your Standards, then you've got a pocket full of miracles... No that's not it... A pocket full of Bisquick? No, maybe it's poo... Can't remember. Well, you've got a pocket full, anyway.
I like 'em, they sound just fine n dandy to me!Yes Sir
i'VE BEEN WATCHING THE POULARIY OF THE LUDWIG STANDARD LINE CONTINUE TO INCREASE. LUDWIG OFFERED DIFFERENT WRAP CHOICES, WHICH I FIND INTERESTING. AS MENTIONED EARLIER, THE STD'S SHELLS
WERE THE SAME 3-PLY MAKEUP AS LUDDY'S REG. LINE OF PRODUCT. I
AM LOOKING FOR THE WRAP COLOR THAT IS CALLED "ROOTBEER" (NOT ITS
REAL NAME.) THESE SWIRL WRAPS WERE VERY DIFFERENT AT THE TIME
THEY WERE RELEASED. MY OLDEST BROTHER BOUGHT A NEW SET OF THESE IN '69, I WISHED NOW I COULD HAVE PURCHASED THEM FROM HIM, AS I FEEL
THE "STANDARDS" WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE IN VALUE. LOOK ON EBAY--YOU DO NOT SEE TOO MANY OF THESE AVAILABLE, ESPECIALLY IN GOOD
SHAPE AND IN COMPLETE SETS. MOST OF ALL-JUST ENJOY PLAYING WHAT YOU HAVE. CLEAN THEN UP, INSTALL NEW HEADS, SET THEM UP, AND JUST PLAY EM!!!
