My son already has a Speed King pedal from the late 70s in excellent condition. It's used on his 1962 Super Classic set. The 2020 resissue looks very similar in most respects, except for the finish and a few other relatively minor visual changes.
I was thinking about getting one for him to use on his modern Ludwig bop kit for gigs. He doesn't want to use the vintage pedal on gigs in case it gets damaged. I'm curious if anyone has seen one of the reissues and whether it's the real deal or if they have cheapened the quality compared to the original or if there are any potential issues I should be aware of.
As I indicated, the purpose of acquiring this reissue is to use on a modern kit not a vintage one. We have always loved the size and weight of the Speed King pedal, the hidden springs, and the ability to take the pedal off and fold it down into a very compact package. Apparently the pedal will not be available until June, but perhaps someone saw it at NAMM. His birthday is coming up in a few months! Cool1
