Ludwig snare

Loading...

Hello group. I have a 14" ludwig snare in very good condition. serial number is 243293. Have gone thru ebay to check out prices, and found one w/serial 255--- selling for approx 200. anyone know what year this may be? It's got remo heads on it, so original heads are gone, and are the ludwigs snares held with strings all the time?

just so you know... Ludwig was infamous for assigning serial numbers in a completely nonsensical fashion. A better description could tell more. What's the badge look like. Heck, what's the drum look like? The muffler, strainer, et al can give hints to the age of the drum. Older drums of all makes mostly used string to hold the snares on their more standard strainers. (non parallel, of course) Later on everyone started using the plastic strips, so some newer drums have strainers that can accomodate those, too.
