Ludwig snare in Butcher Block wrap???

Loading...

My seller e-mailed me about that tom last week

he had made the very first bid of 99 cents

he asked if I would still be interested in the project outlined above

he advised me that the drum was good because it had the 8 lugs

and because it did not have the mount drillings I said sounds good

I told him I wanted to keep final costs around the same as for the first two snares

He assured me he would try and keep things in that range for me

But advised me that the first step was to try for that drum

and to do that he would be bidding to win it. so that was what he did

he e-mailed Monday to let me know he had it coming but told me it would be a while before he started in with it.

I have had a thread in the wanted section for some time looking for just such a tom

Mike I enjoy our exchanges sorry about this guy

Here are some of the offset 8 lug snare

Kenwood

No worries my friend. I like the off set lug look. If I had won the tom I was planning on doing the same. If you have a guy that can do the work, and I am able to find another one, if you don't mind sharing, I would appreciate it. Precision wants way too much to do work like that and my workshop doesn't have the proper tools to do a clean cut, more less bearing edges and snare beds . . . yet.

Thanks Mike. I may take you up on the offer if I dont find one at the CT show. I have reached out to a few wrap companies but no luck on a Ludwig BB wrap yet. The Rogers is close and I actually like that wrap better than the Ludwig one. Looks more natural to me

I have a 54"x22" sheet of BB wrap. I can't say it's the wrap Ludwig used in the 70's but it sure looks like it. I would be willing to let it go for $40+shipping.

Hey guys

Not only did Mike give me the Rogers floor Tom to harvest the wrap from, I picked up the wrap from Cam for the Ludwig snare. It is almost a dead on match! So, next step is to prep the Rogers and Ludwig shells (with destroyed original wraps) for their new wraps. More to come in a few weeks. Thanks Mike and Cam !

Wanted to share the Rogers project with everyone.

Thanks again to Mike "Mchair303" for the wrap as it's about 99.5 % finished.

Still need to put the badge on and install the muffler (period specific one is on its way).

I harvested a Cleveland era 4-digit serial number Luxor shell that the wrap was shot, had no strainer or butt and the B&B lugs were all cracked.

- Closed off all the holes and re-drilled for an 8-lug set up

- Repainted the interior with Krylon Flat Grey paint (matching the original color)

- Added the harvested wrap

- Changed the cracked B&B lugs for Beaver Tail lugs

- Added a Dyna-sonic strainer and butt

Here's some in progress pictures

And the 99.5% complete snare.

Oh Yea . . . .

And it sounds fantastic even without the internal tone control !

Next up . . . The Ludwig B-Block Snare
