Ludwig Snare drum help please Last viewed: 3 hours ago

I was given this drum today and told initially that it was an Acrolite. When I picked it up I right away saw that it was a Supra (maybe) or Super Sensitive? It has a chrome shell and ten lugs as you can see.

The chrome is peeling in a few places but I'm not worried about it - the drum is so nice and at the right price....free.

I'm puzzled by the strainer. The former owner told me he didn't have the proper snares for it so he rigged the current snares to fit....see wires. He bought the snare drum new but couldn't remember the year....maybe late 70's he said. I do have the Ludwig book and it looks like the S/N and badge puts the drum 1978-79.

I did a quick look in the Ludwig book to see what drum it is but so far can't see it exactly - it's probably in there. However, I thought I'd post here because I know the Ludwig buys will probably be able to nail the drum down and tell me what I need to fix it a lot faster than I would be able to look it up.

What do I need to have the throwoff/snares working like they were when new.

Looks like a super sensitive to me. As you mentioned the snare wires are wrong.

Looks to be a Super-Sensitive model (missing some throw off parts) from circa 1976.

Thanks guys.

Does anyone here have a complete throw-off for me to look at?

I've been looking in the Ludwig Book and still can't see the throw-off I have. But, if mine is missing parts that could be why I can't see it.

I needed parts for mine and found them at drumsonsale.com They have catalog drawings of the parts with the part numbers to help you figure out what parts you need.

Awesome! It looks like I have pretty much all the parts except the snare guards and I don't think I should need them to make it work...right? All I need I think is some of those fancy Ludwig snares....I'll check it out further though on drumsonsale.com

Thanks!

Yep, don't need the snare guards to make it work. You should be able to get the correct snare wires at Long & McQuade.
