Ludwig S/L vs. Ludwig Rocker

Loading...

I think I may have finally figured out or sure what my kit is. I believe it is a S/L instead of Rocker. I know neither are really "sought after" kits right now but is the S/L considered more collectable than a Rocker kit? Was there difference in the shell? Also, where were the S/L series made? NC or IL? I have heard that the Rockers were the first drums made in NC so I'm assuming the S/L were made in IL

The snare drums are awesome . I have a couple and can't sell them for $75. They are actually a poormans's Jazz fest.

I would be but I'm short on cash right now. Need to sell a kit first to free up some money

I had an S/L kit for 20 plus years, tough as nails and earned it's price tag a hundred times

over. The S/L and early rockers used the classic mini lugs on toms, large lugs on Bass, which are sturdier than the Standard/Rocker lugs.I believe the S/L kits were made in Monroe,Ludwig did a unimold shell as the Standards 1981 1982,made in Chicago. The S/L was an intermediate 1983 kit that the rockers replaced. The difference between the S/L and early rockers was the rockers had 4 ply unimold shells, S/L same thing except the kick was 6 ply.

I have kept track of the S/L kits on these forums and have seen some variation,I have seen three different types of bd spurs used on them, and a few S/L kits in Europe that had clear interiors, most had Beige/yellowish paint on the interiors.Badges black and white with no serial numbers.

As far as worth I would pay the same as I would for early rockers with classic lugs,as far as I can tell most people paid around the same as you would for an early rocker kit.

I believe the S/L kits were only produced for a year year and a half at most so it is hard to find finished auctionssales to get an average price.

Great info! Thanks...would you say by the photo that my drums are S/L's or Rockers? I'm leaning toward the S/L. The badges don't have serial numbers. The only thing on my kit that indicated the rocker kit is that it had a black Ludwig head on the kick. Not sure really if that makes a difference....and it might not have been the original head.

Do they have the bowtie or the standard type lugs?

@ ARDRUMMER,perhaps my original post was to wordy/disorganized,but only difference between the S/L and rockers is the bass drum thickness,Rockers all 4 ply about 1/4 inch thick, S/L toms 4 ply bass drum 6 ply at around 3/8 thick.
