Here's a Ludwig Rocker kit from the mid eighties....
Ludwig Rockers
Nice jr!
I had a Blue Sparkle Rocker kit in the late 80's. I remember those solid black wood hoops! Not bad drums for the money at all! Does that double tom holder have the multi-clamp for a cymbal arm?
I like the lightweight stand you have over by the floor tom with the SR2 cymbal on it. Most of those SR2's sound pretty good to me. And you can't beat the price! They are all pro level cymbals, they don't re-do the XS20's or B8's.
I picked up a 20" Thin SR2 that sounded awesome, and it turns out it was an HHX Legacy Ride. You could still see the remnants of the "hollow" HHX logo on the top of the cymbal, which defines it as a Legacy. The re-lathing completley took of the unlathed ring on the bottom of the cymbal. I have a "normal" 21" HHX Legacy Ride, and the 20" SR2 sounds very close, as you would expect it to, just a bit higher pitched, again as you would expect. The lathing dried it out just a bit and made it just a smidge trashier sounding.
Nice kit, those look really fun to play!
Here are some pictures of my 1988 Rocker kit. Yes, the Classic lugs were original! I brought all the shells to my drum tech friend and checked all the bearing edges on his milled granite table. Some of the best edges he'd seen! Ludwig craftsmen were in a good mood when they built the kit! Sadly, the kit is now in the hands of a new owner. If I only had a HUGE house to store all my drums, I'd never have to sell any of them! CryBaby
Cool kit, idrum. Are you sure those are Rockers?
As I said above, I had some blue sparkle Rockers. They had wood hoops that were solid black on both sides; yours are chrome. Also, the tom holder had ball and socket L arms and no Ludwig logo; yours does. And the spurs were more "pro" style on the Rockers. Also, the Rockers used lugs that were very close to the original Standard series, Rockers never used Classic lugs.
I think you had a possible "pre" Rocker kit, maybe a Ludwig Standard II (which bridges the gap between the original Standard and the Rockers)??

Thanks for jogging my memory! You are correct that these are not Rockers. It's a 1988-89 Rocker II kit, which did come with the tom holder pictured and the style of bass drum legs pictured on my kit. The Classic lugs installed on my kit happened from time to time, simply because the assembly line was out of Rocker/Standard lugs and substituted Classic lugs to keep assembly flowing.
Thanks for catching my mistake!
No worries idrum. My knowledge is solidly inferior to many others on this forum, and I'm just thrilled that I actually got something right!
That's cool about the classic lugs. Almost like an unexpected bonus! I saw a Ludwig Standard kit on ebay a while ago with classic lugs.
