Maybe change the strap and pivot to the late 60"s one and leave the "hot dog" in place.

I have seen on a forum that there may be "fitment issues" with Maxwell's rails on some brands when trying to reuse the stock mounting holes. Recommend confirming hole diameter and spacing before ordering one. A vintage replacement should be easy to find.
They are designed for Ludwig hole spacing and fit the holes in my pre serial 22" Superclasic BD perfectly.

You can put the Maxwell upright on your original rail and what you have is essentially the same thing as a post-1967 Ludwig rail mount, just minus the Ludwig logo etched in it.

If I can't find an original one, I'll see if SM will sell just the upright.
