Ludwig "New Speed Pedal"

Loading...

I have been wanting to post this pedal for a while now. Ive had this Ludwig pedal for about 10 years now, and have been meaning to ask about it. The foot board is worn some but I can make out "New Speed Pedal" and "Chicago Ill USA"

The pedal is functional, however it is missing the support bar underneath and is broken where the bar would meet and secure under the heel plate. This pedal came with a set of mismatched WMP drums. Bass is a 49 Leedy, snare is a 41 Ludwig, and toms are MIJ. Anyhow, I imagine that the pedal is from around the 40s... am I correct.

Any info on this pedal would be great!!

I didnt get a great photo of the top of the pedal but it is all intact and functional. The large blue beater you see fits and secures fine.

Any idea of how I could fix this pedal Mike? The heel plate is still solid, but you can see in the picture where the "housing" is broken where the support bar would go.

The old man I bought the drums from told me that the 1941 snare was part of his original kit, and that the other drums were damaged in an accident or a fire or something... it's been 10 years or so... but I would imagine this pedal is probably the original pedal for his kit. I love it! it's got character.

I also have the original wood blocks, one having the same Ludwig logo sticker on it as on this pedal.

yeah, thats most likely the original pedal there. if you could post a pic of the damage, maybe someone could chime in on some repair ideas. forum member bfulton does great work on pedals. he may have some ideas as well.

if you need any pics of mine, let me know. seems like my ludwig&leedy pedal is built much like the new speed pedal, even though they were about 10 years later.

Your Leedy & Ludwig pedal is the same model pedal as the new speed but with a new footboard attached. This is why they are so similar. Why mess with a good thing when all you have to do is update the brand logo, right? x-mas3
