Ludwig "Marcher"

Loading...

I'm not familiar at all with parade or marching drums, but picked this one up recently at a garage sale for next to nothing. I'm trying to determine whether the two holes drilled into the shell (see pics) were for a strainer (there aren't any holes drilled for a snare butt) or for a holder that wrapped around the marcher's waist. Any "words of wisdom" would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time and your help.

Mike: Thanks for your time and the info provided. I appreciate it! So, there were "marchers" that didn't have snare wires attached to them?

Thanks. So, technically speaking, the drum I have is a Ludwig "tenor" drum?

i'm no expert, tenors were just drums that didn,t make it to being snares !!

they came as singles, 3s,4s drums as yours came with a sling and leg rest, sets came with a full harness.

you can check them out on web or E-bay

I played a tenor one fall in high school, although ours were Slingys with a blue and red striped wrap. There would also be a clip between one tension rod and the rim to attach the strap. We even used felt mallets, which was pretty old school even in 1980. But our band director was ancient.

By the time the spring parade rolled around, I had been promoted to a set of three Roto-Toms. I'm not sure anyone could hear me above the rest of the band......

Was just like KungFuGrip as a freshman on the drum line. Everyone started on Tenor drum and bass drum. But then again that was 1972. Had to prove yourself to play snare
