So I managed to get the bass drum assembled and tuned up.

It sounds fantastic. Remo Powerstroke batter and a Ludwig Weather Master rez head.

The parts are not original obviously but all period correct and all Ludwig

except the wood hoops, they are from a 1960 Rogers bass drum and have a WMP inlay.

I am going to have it re wrapped by Jack Lawton drums.

The kit sounds really good together. I picked up a second 16 inch FT (not pictured).

It's a '65 and is in great shape. The double 16s give it a really cool Buddy Rich or Mitch Mitchell vibe.. so much fun.

Ok, I couldn't do it.

The bass drum is just too beautiful as is and I think I can remove the stains from the bottom of the drum.

I managed to locate a 13 and 16 to match. As I stated, the BD is pre serial, the 13" is a '66 and the 16" is a '65.

The finishes match up incredibly well and the kits sounds fantastic.

It's an orphan kit but they make a happy family.

The set looks fantastic ! Great call on leaving the original wrap on the bass drum. I am sure another Silver Sparkle bass drum will show up somewhere to finish that set. That 60's Champagne Sparkle is a beautiful, class, wrap ! I love mine and take them out on special gigs.

I have had the opportunity to play this kit and it sounds fantastic.

They are fat and warm sounding. The bass drum is punchy with a really big sound. Very happy with how this turns out.

I matched them up with a George Way Hollywood snare and they compliment each other nicely.

I have a dilemma..

I recently mounted the 13 tom in a snare stand

with nice rubber padding at the contact points and barely tightened down

the basket. The drum sounds incredible and open and full.

When I mount to the rail mount the drum sounds like a cardboard box.

I know people have found the opposite to be true.. what gives?

Any suggestions?

Ok, think I figured it out. Changed the heads to a vintage emperor on top and a vintage A on the bottom. When I mount to the rail the drum opens up at a lower tuning, as I crank it up a little it just flattens out. When in the snare stand I can pull a little more high mid out of it and it still has a nice open sound. Verdict: low, fat tuning works best on this kit. They sound huge!
