Ludwig Playon head

Loading...

Hey Guys,

I have a transition badge pioneer with the original Playon head on it. The head is pretty unique. It is smooth, seems thick, and has faint stripes in it.

I actually really dig the head on this drum but am going to take it off to preserve it. Is there a modern head with the same feel and sound? I doubt the same look.

Thanks,

Wes

Those are great heads. You described it just right too. I've got them on several sets. But I use them conservatively on the snares. I think that I tried some newer Ludwig smooth Heavy heads that impressed me a lot like the playon. I think Ludwig is no longer making these in a smooth finish though.

Thanks Mike. I'll see if I can find one of those heads.

Introduced in the late '50s, they were Ludwig's first plastic (Dupont Mylar) heads.

Never play it the same way once.
