Hey KO. Fully agree on the mod orange and that the right color brings big cash just like the rare psych red if one would ever come around. Guess I just got lucky because last Jan I picked up a beautiful 1964 pioneer in BOP/OBP for $575 in excellent condition. You are 100 % correct that the JF’s drive 3-4x more. Still not sure why. I see a lot of sellers asking $350 for a “rare” blue sparkle pioneer. I have 3 that are all keystone badge in beautiful cond that I paid less than $225. I find that a lot of sellers if you reach out to them and educate them they may understand what the drum is really worth and make a reasonable deal.

What would a fair and realistic price be for this drum?

Hey Mark
As they say, those are like finding hens teeth especially in the keystone badge era.
Have seen a few on Gary B’s Drum Factory FB page but more in the B/O era. He does show one with the keystone badge. Unfortunately he said he only sells the snares with the complete matching wrap kit. I tried to buy a psych red and that’s how he deals drums. Fully understandable.
Would agree with KO that this one would drive huge cash. Not really my taste but in beautiful condition.
Have heard rumors that there are only a few around in the keystone badge era so IMHO the $3200 - 3500 range may be about right.

Thanks for the info! The overall condition is good, but I wish the interior paint was a bit better. Does that factor into the price equation? Or, is it more about the wrap?

I agree for the asking $ I would also wasn’t a better interior. I reached out to Gary to get his input. He said the Bun E signature may be driving some of the cost. I agree on that as I’d also love to have one of his signed drums in my collection. All that aside he said the cost is at the high end of the spectrum and if it was a “must have” then it maybe ok but definitely not a drum to be flipped at that price. If your looking to grab it I’d offer the $3200 and see how it goes. I don’t think that’s an unreasonable offer.

Hi!
Your information is greatly appreciated! And for taking the time to ask Gary about this as well!

A mod orange Pioneer popped up on ebay probably 15-18 years ago. It started at a dollar by folks with no idea what is was other than an old drum they found. Sold for $1200. Oyster Black Pioneers can bring $1000...I paid $600 for one and that was also 15 years ago. The right color will draw out the big money...but then a JF in the same desirable wraps will go for 3-4 times more.
Two years ago I sold my OBP pioneer for 1200. Psych red and Mod Orange pioneers would go for around 2K, easily.

My signature doesn't make a difference on a mod orange jazz fest I think.
I missed it. Message me the wisecrack.
