The Ludwig books tells the story of Ludwig falling out of favor with Avedis Zildjian in the late 1950’s and not repairing that relationship until the early 70’s. The Ludwig/Paiste cymbals were listed a secondary line around 1955 and had the Paiste name stamped on them at that time. Maybe the cowbell is from that period... just a guess. I am no authority on any of this stuff; I just find it very interesting. :). That stamp on the cowbell does match the one on the Ludwig Paiste cymbals in the 1957 catalogue.

I have one of these. The stamp is much like the cymbals that were being made in the late 50's. I agree with Jim that this is most likely the period when this was made. Don't see too many of them around. Nice find.

As I read, I thought: I wonder if I'd be able to distinguish neighbor Joe's cow on my field based on the pitch of the bell, and sure enough I came across..."...they are tuned differently, in order to distinguish individual animals, they can be collected "from the pasture" in random tunings." Lol...good stuff. Anyway, I suppose that bells of that sort would be unique sounding.

This is a great sounding cowbell. At some point I'll create and post a sound file or video. In reading through some older posts some where wondering if this was the cowbell used in Led Zeppelin's Good Times Bad Times, however, I'd say not this model. It's much lower in pitch. He probably used the Ludwig Gold Tone cowbell. Just my :2Cents:
