I have no idea. It looks okay. It appears to be die cast. I prefer the GREAT ol' P83 "can opener", stamped-steel design. I wish they'd bring that one back.

The whole throw off thing got waaaaay out of hand back at the turn of the millennium and they became like gaudy hood ornaments instead of something that looked balanced and even discreet, with the drums that utilized them. Some of them even required a person to buy a case that was the next size bigger just because the throw off stuck out so far!

At least it's a Ludwig branded throw off and not some kind of Gibralter thing.

Thanks very much for responding, sir. I tend to agree with you in your evaluation of modern throw-offs. The p-83 was simple yet effective. Utilitarian yet still visually appealing. I especially like your phrasing of "gaudy hood ornaments"! Excellent! Maybe other will weigh in. I still like the looks of the P-88. Thanks again O-Lugs!

The P88 is a great throw-off! I've got it on 3 of my snare drums, including my 2012 "Brass Edition" snare drum. The P88 comes with the P35, too.

Here's the P88 on my custom NOB snare drum. I took the hardware from a "Blackrolite" and installed it on a Worldmax "Black Dawg" shell. I wanted to try the P88/P35 instead of the P85/P32.

Thanks for trusting me!! The P88 replaced the P85AC, which had a very narrow thumb-wheel that was tough to turn and would bind up when in the "on" position. I believe that Josh, of Inde Drums, helped in the original design, but saw the flaws. He came out with his own strainer, that everyone raves about! It's pretty much the P88, but designed to be used with various hole lengths. If you need a throw for a typical Ludwig snare drum that uses a P83/85/86 hole spacing of 2.5", you can't go wrong with the P88!

The matching P35 butt was designed to replace the HUGE P33, but can be used to replace the P32 if you tap the existing non-threaded holes to 8-32. That's what I had to do with the NOB drum shown above. Not a big deal for me, but others find doing this a PITA!
