I have a 70's ludwig kit

I want to mount a cymbal (one inch tube) in the bass drum mount

here is a picture of the mount:

i was wondering if Ludwig or any other company may have

a solution as I have a double bass kit and really want to mount a cymbal to the bass drum without using the shell mounted type of mount

any suggestions would really be appreciated!

Gibraltar makes a tom mount with 9.5 or 10 mm arms with an attachment for a cymbal holder and or mini boom.

Depending on how high and the placement you want a cymbal you can also use the top probably two peices of an existing cymbal stand or boom stand.

thank you not sure if 9.5mm or 10mm is nearest to an inch but I'm sure a memory lock would work just fine

also didn't want to salvage a cymbal stand but that might be the best option. I had not seen this done before, and wondered if it is possible-thank you

I will try your suggestion

Acxtually those old tubular Atlas stands from 70's/early eighties work quite well. For double bass, I like to put crash cymbal boom stands right inside the kick drum mount. Be careful though as this may put a lot of stress on the shell(which is why many people don't even mount a tom from the kick drum). Google "Carmine Appice" and look at some of his past configurations. flower

Or... you could install one of the old Ludwig Standard Mounts they used for both their single and double tom holders. It fits the same hole pattern as the classic mount you have pictured. Then a regular sized Ludwig cymbal stand tube (from the 60s/70s) fits right in.

These do pop up on eBay from time to time...

Hi!

In case you didn´t know: 1 inch is exact 25,4mm.

Just to help you in maybe other cases, I think it´s always good to know how to convert measures.

Hope this can help you and wish you good luck in solving your problem.

ive got two kits that have the center mount. but i like to play one up and want the ride cymbal over the bass. here is what i use.

you can find a 60's ludwig disappearing spur mount. this mount was also used on some clubdates for the disappearing cymbal mount. it accepts a 3/8 rod which is the same as the upper cymbal rod on a ludwig 1400 cymbal stand.

anyway, the disappearing mount will sit down inside your bass mount. but, it needs to be a little longer to hold properly. i couldnt find a coupler with the exact threads. but i found a galvanaized pipe coupler that threads on enough to hold. then, i wrapped the coupler and threaded portion of the disappearing a mount a couple of times neatly with some duct tape. this will be inside your bass mount and will not show. this is done to get the fit just right. then, you simply use your knob on your bass mount to tighten it up.

gibraltar makes a z bar that is around 13 bucks or so i think. it will mount in the disappearing mount and locate the ride cymbal enough to the right so that even a 22" cymbal won't come in contact with your ride tom. it works perfectly and is fully adjustable as well.

here is a pic of the setup on the bass drum of my vistalites. hope this helps some. its easier than i made it sound.

You can order just parts of cymbal stands. Just order the top 2 tubes. There are several companies that use 1" tubes. Ludwig, DW just to name 2...

Download a few replacement catalogs available on companies websites. They may not tell you the size, but a day at a local store will. Then you already have the part numbers to order what you want....
