Ludwig Mach Lug Drums Questions Last viewed: 18 hours ago

Loading...

A while back I looked at an early '70's Hollywood set in BDP with the long ("mach") lugs. I noticed that the interiors were painted a matte gray color. There were no flecks of paint in other colors, such as some "granitone" paint. The pearl wrap has shrunk and shows bare wood in the gaps. I don't remember the condition of the lugs, rims and bolts, but I do remember that I may be able to satisfactorily rehab them. I am now considering buying them. The asking price, with Supra 400 snare, is $1000.

Question 1: Is that gray interior paint stock, as the owner maintains?

Question 2: How rare are the mach lugs? Anyone have any stats?

Question 3: Assuming the hardware is salvageable, and knowing that a re-wrap is in my future, does that seem like a good ballpark price?

Thank you in advance for your wisdom.

I've owned one set with the grey paint, It's factory. Mach lug kits are more rare than the classic lug kits for sure.I don't have the stats, How many drums are included with this kit?

It looks like a Mach 5: I believe the sizes are 12, 13, 16 and 22, plus the snare.

My Mach 4 set has the clear interiors...

If you are rewrapping the set, I wouldn`t pay $1000 for it considering you will be spending $250-$400 for good quality wrap...Try to get them cheaper, if possible...

Cheers

Negative, Sir. It's in the hands of a local private seller.

Anything you can save on the price by getting the guy to come down a bit (harp on the seam problems and how they will have to be re-wrapped,) will help defray the cost of re-wrapping them. They are worth the investment just know that you'll never be able to make any money on a resale. By re-wrapping them you'll cut their market value in half. If they be keepers, buy them, wrap them any way you like and enjoy them.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

The kit I had with the grey paint not the granitone interior, Were the 5ply no rering shells are these the same one you're looking at? If so I would probably pass unless the guy will take half his asking price, these are fantastic shells, Just no resale value on them.

They are three-ply with the re-rings (guess I should have mentioned that in my first post).
