Ludwig floor tom legs

Loading...

Can anybody tell me when Ludwig changed, or if they did, to a different knurled pattern on the floor tom legs. I have a set with straight grooves, running the length of the leg, and a set of cross-hatched grooves. Just wondering if anyone can clarify for me..

I think it was late 67?? They were short in early 60's with the cross knurling and then were made longer and had the straight knurling.

My 71's (Ludwig Classic's) have the cross knurling and are long, I like my FT's to be low and the wing nut is almost off of the knurling. I would like to beleive these are original to the drums (16x16 and 16x18) but I could be wrong.

I have late 60's drums, late 70's drums and early 80's Ludwigs and all of the floor legs have the straight lines.... None of mine are criss-crossed...

Late 60's is when they went away from the knurled legs, and they were available in two lengths since the mid 60's....17" long and 23" long. You could get them either way up until the mid 80's when Ludwig discontinued the 17" legs.

I guess my 71's with knurled FT legs are not original. I think the hunt is on for the right ones.

It could be.....it depends on if they are original and if the original owner ordered them this way....if they are not original, someone could have just grabbed a set of the long ones as they were more readily available in later years.....
