Looking Good... Both you and Jeff have done well here... the original lugs would worry me... but this is great..(never played 4 ply but am visualising a decent tone).. I guess the cortex is equal to an extra ply? ... CheersJohn

hey john- I had some 4 ply snares that I really liked. this is my first 4 ply kit though. sound different than all of my 3 plys. but I do like the way they sound. have a great sound. the bass drum is a cannon.

I would guess the cortez is pretty thick. it sure holds up well. the drums look like new.

Cool! nice to hear you chime in Bermuda , we almost had three kits on an old wooden deck with tree surroundings. But I just did not have time to drag mine outside so I did mine in the dinning room.

I am attaching a pic just so three of the four known VDF kits can all be pictured in one thread. And if you look out the window you can see trees, LOL.

Now we just need Zeta to post his.

Thank you!

Ya I know who your talking about, I made him mad by asking for serial numbers. I don't know if he is on this forum or not so I was just referring to VDF members. But you are correct, there are five sets that we know about. Two of them have matching snares, I'm so lucky to be one of them.

Thank you!

I also have a 16x16 in matching Maple Cortex (so I could make a mini-Bonham kit: 22/12/14/16) and this snare, with a plastic shell, purchased from Ludwignut (thanks Rob!) when I used to frequent DFO. Its s.n. 3765 is much later than my basic kit whose #s are in the 03xx & 04xx range.

Cool snare, that's the first one I have seen in that wrap.

Nice, mine has the Educator badge. I guess Ludwig had a ton of the old Standard badge blanks laying around. :)

I see a Combo kit every now and then on ebay, but usually too beat up or incomplete to be desirable.
