I remember seeing this series in a bunch of middle schools and high schools in the 60's and 70's. They looked like a cheap lightweight version of the regular Ludwig line. School model Standards. All of the ones I saw were single headed and most were not kits but a series of concert toms with straight long legs so you could stand and play them. I was never impressed with them. Everyone I saw was the same natural maple.

Jeff, These are a RARE set to fine. These look to be the wood shells not the plastic type that Ludwig made in this line..The snare looks like a Ludwig one but it's not from the Educator line its looks metal to me.All of the Educator snare's were made of plastic. On this set i can't tell for sure but these lugs look like the classic one;s> I do see on the bass drum used "Club Date" lugs these will be made of metal..If i was you i would make the drive and buy the set....Mikey
[QUOTE=marko52;162564]Like has been said, these don't come up often. I think they were sometimes out together with random parts, mix n match style. Mlayton, do these have plastic lugs? Seems like I've read that somewhere....amrko[/QUOT
The only time that Ludwig used Plastic lugs were on the Combo line of drums 1980 with all the problems with them the lugs only lasted 4 months .Ludwig change the lugs out to the classic lugs on these sets.Oh the plastic lugs did not look like the classic lugs that Ludwig used...Mikey
Bought the drums today. Pics later.

i dont know for sure . like mikey said the combo line had plastic lugs on some of their drums. i have a set of vistalite combos that have the original plastic lugs. looking for a matching floor tom if anyone runs across one. my kit is blue.
mikey-how were you able to narrow that time line down so close on the use of plastic lugs?
mike
OK, got the drums today. Included was one 20" ride, 14" hats, drums. Rogers hi hat stand and DW snare stand.
The drums do have the plastic lugs but the shells are wood. The mounted toms do not have bottom hoops and never did, I think. The wrap is a maple cortex in very good condition, no scrathes just dirt. No extra holes or modifications. The snare is an older Yamaha. 6.5"x14" steel and weighs a ton. The Rogers Hihat is interesting as is the DW snare stand (also weighs a ton). the cymbals I have shown details in the vintage cymbal forum. The seller got them from his church who origionaly purchased them brand new so I will be the third owner. All in all, these will clean up like brand new, I will play them but for the most part they will be a show peice.
Thank you!

More pics. Funny story goes with this one. Friday night I started this thread right? Saturday the sell er calls and says he did some research and found that the drums might be more valuable than he thought. So he took them to get appraised. Called later and price went up. Further negotiation took price back down to 25 more than origional price and thats what I paid. Once I met him I had to ask if he had seen this thread and sure enough, he did. So as always, thank you for your support and expert advice but it cost me 25.00 lol!!!!

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
Wow Jeff, A nice and rare set the first one i have seen with the club date lug set up..I maybe wrong on this but the plastic lugs-{snare}- that i see were only used on the Combo sets in 1980 for just a few months. The combo sets had single lugs made of plastic they were the same shape as the ones you have on the set..You could always change out the lugs to the classic snare lugs and have a nice playing set..Mikey
