Ludwig Drums Need a New Home Last viewed: 20 seconds ago

Hello to everyone,

I am new here so please bear with me. I have been the owner of a Ludwig/WFL 4 pc. Jazz kit for over 40 yrs. now and I would like to find a good home/interested buyer for them. The drums are over 50 yrs old and I have kept them in cases. Am I in the right place to talk about their history and value & finding the right buyer/collector? I have talked with a few buyers & collectors over the years so I have some background and I look forward to learning more.

I have included details I know about them & some pictures.

All Drums are dated inside shells from Sept. to Nov. 1958

Three have WFL Badge and TomTom has Ludwig Badge

Snare: 14 x 6.5

Tom Tom: 13 x 10

Floor Tom: 16 x 17

Bass: 22 x 16

Cymbal: UFIP 20" bounce/ride medium

Cases: The House of Quality Chicago

It is an incomplete set and there's quite an array of "misc." hardware too

Looks to be a very nice kit and should demand close to top dollar. Obviously, there are some unknowns. But upon first glance, they should bring in mucho monies. Good luck on this one. Make sure no one tries to take those from you for some feeble amount - under 1500, as they appear to be worth a bit.

welcome this is the place, ask and you shall generate a lot of feedback as to what you need to get for them so list them some one will buy them this is a real nice kit.most here are fair and for the love of the drum you get a lot of interest most of us here already have nice kits and budgets restraints stop some from buying them all, as we would like to ..... goodluck

Nice kit, you would probably have better luck on ebay, things seem to move slow around here. But Mr. Sling is right, don't except anything under $1500 for those, the snare is the clincher!

Hi and welcome aboard!

Great drums you have there and even better that you know the history of them. I recently sold the same kit, but with a 5" deep snare and full original hardware set for AU$2500 on ebay if that's any help to you. Are you really sure you want to sell these fine drums that you have had for 40 years!? Sentimental feelings aside, you'll be hard pressed to find another in this condition. Good luck with it anyway.

I really appreciate everyone's comments and great feedback. There is some sentimental value in the set, but I don't play the drums now. I was in a band after highschool for about two and 1/2 months. Maybe somewhere in my dreams for the future I think I'd love to have them set up and ready to play & jam on the spot. But reality is, I haven't played in so many years I am embarrased.:confused:

So I'm on Ebay today looking to set up a posting. They want to know details about shipping. For those of you who have bought and sold on Ebay, how do you do it? Flat rate? Free shipping & include potential cost in the price at auction? I'd like any feedback.

Shipping a drum set correctly is a time consuming process. You do have the cases, but that will require more boxes and larger boxes.

Also, you will need to take things apart and label and pack each item very carefully.

Unfortunately eBay does not allow for multiple boxes in calculating shipping so using the calculator is not recommended.

I usually flat rate the shipping between $100 and $150 depending on the distance. Getting a complete drum kit across the country packed correctly with insurance is not always cheap.

Also, I pack each drum in a plastic bag for any potential water damage.

It would not hurt to visit the UPS store or Pack and Ship to get their pricing.

Some people would prefer paying more for a pro packing job on a kit like this.

You should still make sure they do not keep the spurs and legs on the drums when shipping.

I can easily see 4 boxes for this shipment.
