Ludwig drum set (age?)

Loading...

Greetings from Finland.

I have a Ludwig drum set (finish: classic maple/maple wood) and I've been wondering the age of it. I've looked through various places (vintagedrumguide.com etc.). I asked also from Ludwig but they have not answered my question.

The serial numbers are as follows:

bd 2180399 (22")

sn 2179716 (Ludwig Coliseum, 8"x14")

tt 2179836 (12")

tt 2174738 (13")

ft 2179743 (15")

I've estimated that the set could be from the beginning of 1980's. Is this even close? The tom mounts are modular system. The drum set (white cortex) in the below link is quite similar to my set (except the finish):

Other peculiar thing is the size of the floor tom; it is 15".

Thanks in advance. Any info is useful.

Sounds like eraly 80's. Are the badges blue/olive ones with rounded corners or are the badges keystone large with Chicago on it? Colliseum snares came out in the early 80's. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info.

The badges area B/O with rounded corners.

I really like the sound these drums even though there are some other opinions about 80's Ludwig drums. Especially the snare; it fills up easily a large theater with it's sound (believe me, I have tried ;)).

Btw, this forum is great. Tons of interesting information and great drum sets!
