Hi all,
I found this photo of my COBs as I was cleaning out my Photobucket files. I am lucky to own two of Ludwig's classic (pre-serial) chrome over brass snare drums. I know you guys have seen examples of these snares 100 times, but how often do you get to see them together! Enjoy the photo. I wish the lighting was better on it.
1. 6.5"x14" pre-serial number Ludwig Super 402 (COB) w/super-sensitive snare mechanism.
2. 5"x14" pre-serial number Ludwig Super 400 (COB)
Whenever I get the bug, I just pop one of these into the snare basket and play them to my hearts content. I got lucky with both drums in terms of purchase. I got the 5"x14" with a set of pre-serial Ludwig Sky Blue Pearl Hollywood kit (12", 12", 16", 22") The kit and the snare were very well cared for over the years and the drums are in absolutely cherry condition. I paid $600 for the lot!
The 6.5"x14" super-sensitive was a drum that both the seller and myself were unsure of (whether it was brass or aluminum) initially. I purchased the 6.5"x14" for $450. The drum sells on ebay for $1400.! I really lucked out with both purchases. Patience pays! If you wait for the right deal to come along (and you can get there first,) you can eventually amass a respectable collection of classic and rare drums. The fun part for me is; I get to play these guys whenever I want to. I love both of these snares. Great drums.
