I agree to the comments above, a Clubdate is a great kit to play! Very rounded sound to whatever toots your horn. The sizes are great to get a well balanced sound. I also am a sucker for Blue Sparkle, as I have a Super Classic, Downbeat, Clubdate as well as a "Combo" kit...and all in this terrific wrap! For the price of the Clubdate....JUMP on em, they do NOT disappoint.
Ludwig Club Date, Super classic, or Legacy?? Help!
I would jump on the '67 Club Date deal! You trust the seller, the kit is in good shape and complete, and the price is more than fair and I'm guessing very affordable for you. With proper care you could later recoup your investment should you decide you really want a Super Classic.
One thing you have in your favor is that Blue Sparkle has always been a very popular color and often appears on the used/vintage market whereas something like original Galaxy Pearl or the more than illusive Pink Oyster Pearl are rarities that are not often available and demand a premium prices when they do pop up. So, I would grab the CD set and keep my eyes and ears open for a vintage Blue Spk. Super Classic outfit. Good drumming to ya!
1st : I don't know why anyone would buy a new Ludwig kit of any line over a quality vintage kit. It's like a new car : once you drive it off the lot .... Any vintage kit is only going up in value. It's an investment whilst being a fabulous, enjoyable, brag-worthy kit. Even paying more than you want to is not a bad move - if you've the cash.
I have both CD's & SC's. Love them both. The difference is size. & that is a big difference. I love 12/14/20 - especially the 20" kick. Like the 14" FT over the 16".
Either way vintage is the only way to go (for moi) - Chris
One thing that's not been addressed here is; what kind of music is Timmy into? Not that the Clubbies couldn't handle pretty much anything, but the smaller sizes might not be best choice for say, thrash metal, etc. Otherwise I'm on board with the Club Dates, and I personally prefer these sizes.

I'd take the club date deal right away. But I also think the Ludwig Standard kits in the early 1970s came in blue sparkle. Chris patridge of the Partridge Family had one I believe. That is next on my list. Gonna get me a PF designed bass drum head too. Ha!
Thank you EVERYONE who has taken the time to read this and share all of your input with me, I really love and appreciate it! You guys rock! Sorry if my reply is somewhat jumbled or confusing, I tried to make sure I replied to everyone that posted something!
It is reassuring to hear that it will last me 3 lifetimes! I plan on keeping this kit forever if I buy it! Are they really THAT durable though? @vintagemoore2000
I think you are very right Lynn :p I don't think I will be able to turn this deal down, it would haunt me forever. LOVE your kit btw! @slingerlynn
Haha, I love it @Mspartacus! I don't necessarily see that as a problem to be too upset at ;] I also would have to agree with you though, I know I would never forget this chance I had at a club date for such a fair price if I let it go.
I didn't even know they made 4 different sized clubdates?? Very impressive though! I'm jealous! @mlayton
That's very interesting @supeclassic! There is just something about those sizes and lugs that appeal to me, such a unique style. I think these clubbies may be winning my heart over!
I was kind of thinking that as well @stallwart, or maybe I will just hold onto this club date forever since it will be my first full vintage kit. I'm not sure that I will be able to part with it if I do buy it! Great advice though and maybe sometime down the road the opportunity may arise ;]
@surface, I am instantly jealous of you and your arsenal of blue sparkle!! I will get jumping!
That's some tasty advice @garryc! You are very right, I am thankful the blue sparkles are more common than the pink oyster pearl! Thanks!
@crash and @mme, I am a noob forgive me, but I am not sure exactly what klubatum trommel klub means. Enlighten me please?
That's exactly what I needed to hear @hobbs! I am somewhat disappointed in myself for even considering a brand New Legacy when I have a 67 club date in great condition sitting right in front of me for a heck of a lot less pricey. So the shells on SC's and CD's really are the same? Just different sizes and lugs?
Great point @daddynowhere! No, I am not into thrash metal. I think the styles and situations I would use them for would probably be just about right. I really enjoy indie type of stuff and I personally think there is nothing cooler than a nicely low tuned vintage kit played by a tasty drummer who really appreciates the kit and its history.
That's super cool @larryz! Haha, I love it man, I hope you succeed in checking that off the list :]! I have to say though, I am very set on my first vintage kit being from the 60's!
"I didn't even know they made 4 different sized clubdates?? Very impressive though! I'm jealous! @mlayton"
they don't really. they do make a couple different sizes though.
