Ludwig Club Date lugs

Loading...

So I'm restoring a '65 Club Date.

Taking apart and cleaning the lugs on the kick and the floortom and the inner spring is wrapped with 1.5" yellow masking tape instead of felt.

Is this normal?

Yes that's the way Ludwig did that two short spring's tape together in the middle to make one lone spring-{only on F/T and B/D}-..If i re-call right Ludwig did this from 1961-67...Mikey

Upon removing the old masking tape, there is just one, full size spring.

I assume it was cheaper for Ludwig to wrap the spring with tape instead of felt.

I have never seen 2 taped together....always just 1.....

to keep it from "ringing" in the lug......

Yep... my 63's are about half and half, two-taped-together and some single long springs......
