I recently acquired a nice set of Blue Sparkle Pearl finish Club Dates from the original owner. I everything it came with; acrolite snare, paiste cymbals, a hi-hat (not in original brochure but an ala carte purchase with the set), the original base drum pedel, I even have the cow bell and holder. They may even have the original heads.
Here is my question, as I was cleaning the set I noticed that the wing-tom and bass have a clear finish and the floor tom has a white painted finish. The floor tom has a date stamped inside but it is smudged and not readable. The wing-tom and bass have serial numbers 64xxxx while the floor tom is 56xxxx, but I know from research that the S/N and dates are not always correlated.
Do we know from dates when they used clear finishes and when they painted them white? Is there a sound advantage to either?
