Ludwig Carl Palmer Venus snare problem Last viewed: 20 seconds ago

Loading...

I spent over an hour trying to adjust the Venus snare drum to eliminate the buzz in the OFF position. I gave up deciding to come back to it another time.

I've been reading about the snare buzz with this drum and it seems to be a common problem.

I replaced the string with nylon straps. The snare gate looks properly aligned

Short off returning the snare has anyone found a definitive fix for this.

Has anyone replaced the strainer? If so, which one did you use?

Thanks!

Dave

There is no definitive answer.

Could be defective snare throw, location of mounting holes or a combo of all.

I recently returned one for the same issue.

I have been in contact with Carl Palmer through his management folks over the past day or two and they say CP has several of those snares that are perfectly fine.

I have been referred to Ludwigs A&R guy Uli Salazay in hopes of getting some answer as to why they continue to sell a defective model of CP's snare.

Check out CP's official YouTube and read the feedback.

One guys remarks go back over 4 years.

A guy on Drummerworld started a thread on this. Evidently, the drum is very poorly designed in the snare throw aspect. Can't ever really turn them off. That guy is / was pretty angry at the response he got from Ludwig and is channeling his anger in youtube vids, forums, etc.

That would be me.

When you drop over $300 bucks and spend several hours trying to fix an unfixable problem AND they continue to sell the product with no explanation as to why they won't fix it,yea you tend to get p!ssed.

Can't blame you one bit. I would've done the same thing. I was intrigued by one of those drums when I saw one first hand, but ran away after I read your posts! Saved me some grief, but I'm sorry you have gone through the hassle.

If it's a legit complaint then that response of "CP has several of those Snares and they are fine" is beyond unacceptable. Ludwig and CP are dropping a massive ball there. Not acceptable. I hope Ludwig come forward and arrange an inspection, and if necessary a rebuild of your Snare shell to correctly accommodate the Snare strainer.

I recall Carl complaining abut something in one of his own promo videos for the snare. Like he replaces the snare wires..? Something.

Anyway I love mine. But I'm just an amateur and fanboy of Carl.

He didn't like them using snare strings and suggested replacing them with straps.

Well if straps work then all good, but I really doubt it. Try it but straps, wire or string won't really change that torlerance enough, well maybe. It's still not acceptable in my eyes.

Maybe just buy the worldmax shell they're using and drill your own strainer. Why give Luddy any more $$?
